Best Friends Animal Sanctuary!
The first place I went to complete some of my service learning hours was the best friends animal sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. During our time there we volunteered doing a variety of different things such as cleaning the dog runs, picking up bunny droppings, and walking the dogs. I really enjoyed the work we were doing there and i loved that we were helping abandoned and abused animals get the love and attension they desearve. While we were there we learned that most Micheal Vicks Pitbuls that had ben forced to fight were currently living there, but we werent alowed to see them because they are still too agressive. Along with many dogs and cats the animal society had a wide variety of other animals such as horses, birds, pigs, bunnies, and much more. My favorite part of the animal society was the bird town. They had so many big beautiful white cockatoos.
Defiance Community Thrift Store!
Next, i went to Defiance thrift store here in Glenwood to get some solid hours done in a place that cant get enogh help. I mostly just cleaned the maine showroom and kept putting out new donations. However, i did go around Glenwood with the owners husband and collected furniture from yard sales and such. I didnt really mind the work i was doing there but it sort of made me want to strive for a better life when im older where I dont have to do buissy wok all the time. Besides all the work i did at defiance the owner let me fill a bag with whatever close I wanted which i thought was pretty awsome. Although the work at Defiance was slow going and repedative i would still have to say that it was the easiest service learning hours i completed.
KDNK Radio Show!
The last place i went to finish off my service learning was to the KDNK radio show in Carbondale. I went every monday for three weeks from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Every time i went i was alowed to pick out music from a large collection of CD`s and mp3s. I was also alowed to play music off of an ipod wich was awsome. I was alowd to play whatever music i wanted to as long as it was clean and as long as i didnt play too much dubstep, as if there is such a thing. I usualy played more classic rock than anything, artist such as the B52`s, Boston, Journey, along with some of the more melow music on my ipod. I have to say out of all the places i went to complete my required service learning hourse, this was my favorite. I loved getting the chance to learn how to que up songs and get them ready to play, as well as learning how to seemlesly fade one song into the next. I also loved playing music for a live audiance, it gave me a bit of a rush!
